USS Arizona is a battleship launched during the Great War. During service, the ship underwent modernizations. Arizona was present at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941. During the raid, a catastrophic explosion occurred on the ship’s deck. The crew perished, and the ship sank, becoming a symbol of the Japanese attack. The battleship’s wreck was never raised. Above-water superstructure elements were removed, leaving only the barbette of the third main gun turret. In 1962, a mausoleum was opened on the wreck of USS Arizona.
