The decision to start design work on a new Polish small-displacement car was made in May 1953 by the then Government Presidium: “…a popular, time-saving means of transport for work and leisure should be built, intended for rationalizers, work leaders, activists, scientists, and leading representatives of the intelligentsia.” In June 1955, at the 24th Poznań International Fair, the prototype Syrena was publicly presented for the first time. The Syrena 104 was the last model with doors opening against the wind, i.e., opposite to the direction of travel. FSO License
