History of Panzerhaubitze Hummel
The first designs appeared in 1942 when Germany needed mobile artillery to support armored units. It was armed with a 15 cm sFH 18 (L/30) howitzer mounted on a Geschützwagen III/IV chassis, combining parts from PzKpfw III and IV tanks and newly designed components.
The vehicle had an open-top superstructure with rear doors for easy ammunition loading. The crew consisted of driver, radio operator, commander, gunner, and two loaders.
By war’s end, 713 Hummel guns and 157 ammunition carriers were built, forming armored artillery battalions usually comprising one Hummel battery alongside two lighter Wespe batteries. The battalion had 1618 guns and two ammo carriers.
The Panzerhaubitze HUMMEL set is perfect for those who appreciate precise craftsmanship, military details, and building satisfaction.
This model captures the character of one of the most important artillery designs of the German army and fits perfectly into any historical collection.
