Halloween is an expansion for Monsters in Tokyo, the cult board game by Richard Garfield, creator of collectible titles like Android: Netrunner and Magic: The Gathering. This time, the night of spirits has come to Japan’s capital! Who will be scarier in this competition? The expansion introduces two new monsters: the nightmarish Pumpkin Jack and the terrifying Boogie Woogie, along with a new type of Costume cards. Wearing a Costume grants new abilities, but beware—other players can steal it at any time! Halloween is fully compatible with all other Monsters in Tokyo expansions. If you already own Monsters in Tokyo: Power Up!, you can use unique Evolutions for the two new monsters. Moreover, these Evolutions introduce a new type called Gifted Evolution, which you play on other players!

Boo! Woo! Good evening, this is your favorite Akihoro reporter. Today is Halloween, and I’ve donned my clown costume just for you. Don’t I look scary? Soon, the irreplaceable Pumpkin Jack and equally essential Boogie Woogie will join the Tokyo destruction party. It’s going to be wild!
This expansion adds two new characters, which is great fun. Orange dice are a nice variety, and Costume cards make my head spin—I imagine monsters dressing up as other monsters someday.

Be a Princess
The new expansion includes 12 Costume cards: Princess, Zombie, Vampire, Clown, and more. At the start of the game, each player receives two Costumes, chooses one, and shuffles the other into the base deck. You keep the Costume in front of you to use its effect, but you can lose it anytime if another player rolls three Paw symbols and pays you the Costume’s energy cost. You can use multiple Costumes simultaneously!
A Gift for You!
Gifted Evolution is a new Evolution type played on other players. No one will be happy to receive such a gift! Gifted Evolutions harm the recipient while often benefiting Pumpkin Jack and Boogie Woogie. You can get rid of such an Evolution by dealing damage to another player. Thus, these nightmarish gifts will keep circulating on the table!
