Monsters in New York: Power Up! Expansion is an add-on to the cult board game Monsters in New York by Richard Garfield, creator of Android: Netrunner and Magic: The Gathering. Power Up! introduces the terrifying new character Mega Shark and an Evolution system, giving your monsters unique abilities! Each monster receives 8 dedicated Evolution cards to gain during gameplay and more effectively defeat opponents! Additionally, the box includes a second set of Evolution cards making all New York monsters compatible with Monsters in Tokyo!

Sharks still exist; global warming hasn’t killed them! Moreover, this shark is huge and holding a strange trident. Please be careful at the beach today!

Mega Shark has joined the fight for New York! To defeat it, all monsters received a set of eight Evolution cards! When a player ends their turn with at least three Heart symbols on dice, they gain a random Evolution from their deck. Evolutions are special abilities unique to each monster, helping them destroy opponents more effectively. They can be one-time or permanent and remain secret until used.
Evolution Draft
Once you know all Evolutions by heart, try the Evolution Draft variant! Shuffle Evolution cards and deal eight to each player. Each chooses one Evolution and passes the rest to the left. Repeat until everyone has a unique set of eight Evolutions!
