Kubuś is a Polish improvised armored car built by Warsaw Uprising fighters in August 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising. The vehicle was created in just a few days in a workshop on Tamka Street. It was built using a Chevrolet 157 truck chassis and steel plates to protect the crew from enemy fire. Armed with machine guns, Kubuś took part in several combat actions, including a failed attack on the University of Warsaw. After the uprising, Kubuś miraculously survived the war and is now exhibited at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw as a symbol of the courage and ingenuity of the Warsaw insurgents!
Together with the Polish Army Museum, we decided to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising! We prepared a unique brick set featuring the legendary Kubuś insurgent vehicle! The brick model at 1:35 scale includes prints and all key features of the original displayed at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw. We even included the little-known detail of the Wydra Motor Column emblem on the bumper! Our model is equipped with a DP-28 machine gun. The top hatch opens to place a figure inside. Not everyone knows that entry to Kubuś was through a floor hatch! We marked this unusual entrance in the model! The set includes two figures representing Warsaw insurgents. One wears a gray jumpsuit with a white and red armband on the right arm, a Wydra patch on the left, and a blue cap, representing a soldier from the Wydra Motor Column, part of the Krybar Group. The other soldier belongs to the Rafałka platoon, distinguished by using German sapper yellow triangular pennants with skulls as emblems, marking mined or chemically contaminated areas. This symbol is on the soldier’s left arm. The helmet has a white letter R painted on the side, characteristic of this formation. Both figures come with accessories such as a STEN submachine gun, Bren light machine gun, hand grenade, and mine. The set also includes a bottle and a piece of barbed wire.
The Warsaw Uprising broke out on August 1, 1944, and lasted until October 3. It was an armed uprising of the Polish resistance, mainly the Home Army, against the German occupying forces in Warsaw. The goal was to liberate the capital before the arrival of the Red Army to ensure Poland’s sovereignty after the war. Despite initial successes, the insurgents could not hold their positions against superior German forces and lack of sufficient external aid. After 63 days of fierce fighting, the uprising was suppressed. About 16,000 insurgents and 150,000-200,000 civilians died, and the city was almost completely destroyed. The Warsaw Uprising remains a symbol of Polish heroism and patriotism.
