Description

“He placed the main marker on the category ‘animals.’ The second on a drop of water… hmm… Water animal? Fish! Yes, but that’s not all, he continues… Wood, scissors, cut, tool… Sawfish!”

In the game Concept, your goal is to guess the clues shown by other players. But… the presenter cannot speak or show anything or draw; they only have a board with various images and use markers to indicate those that will guide you.

“Man, human. His profession related to fighting… More? World, white, circle, red. Hmm, difficult… Ah, he connected the circle with red, look, he moved the marker on the world icon closer to a flag. It’s about a flag! A country’s flag – white with a red circle – Japan! Kamikaze pilot or samurai? Passing, time, going back, earlier, so it’s a samurai after all!”

The player has one main marker to indicate the main category and uses auxiliary markers to specify it by pointing to other associations. If needed, they can use additional markers in another color to show other things that might lead to the correct guess.

“The main category shows a woman who is an athlete. In the second, he tries to show that her discipline belongs to winter sports. Then there are two tools she uses in this discipline. One related to legs, the other to arms. The one related to legs is about traveling, and in winter sports, the best travel is skiing, but I wouldn’t have guessed without the arm-related thing. There we have fighting and death, so it must be a weapon. Only the whole led me to the clue. The answer is: Justyna Kowalczyk!”

Concept is a flexible game open to minor rule changes and innovations. Player satisfaction is paramount! Even the craziest ideas can work if all players understand them.

“He marked fighting and placed many cubes on the man’s field. War!”
“Spiral, animal, okay, but a marker placed between woman and man?… Ah, of course! Snail, because it is hermaphroditic!”

Concept works well in any company; clues have 3 difficulty levels, so the easiest can be played with children from age 10. Each card has 9 clues, 3 from each difficulty level, so there is always a choice, and they are arranged so everyone finds something for themselves.

The winner is the player or team who, by guessing the most clues, scores the most points.
