Today I received my new cauldron. Finally, my laboratory is ready! I spent days collecting and drying ingredients waiting for this moment. What to mix first? I have a good feeling about raven feathers and mandrake root. And supposedly, toads go with everything.
But what do others know? This is my lab and my research! When I publish my theories, everyone will come to me! I’ll prove I’m the greatest mind exploring alchemy’s secrets.
Alright, time to light the fire and get to work. In the murky depths of the cauldron, knowledge, wealth, and fame await.
Two to four players become competing alchemists seeking to uncover the secrets of this arcane art. Points can be earned in various ways, but most come from publishing theories—correct theories, that is. And that’s the challenge.
Players gain knowledge by mixing ingredients and checking results via an app scanning cards on a tablet or smartphone. They deduce how to make potions to sell to adventurers. Earned gold can buy powerful but expensive magical artifacts. Players publish theories, ridicule and refute opponents’ theses, and face challenges where turning lead into gold is child’s play!
When theories are published or rejected, reputation rises or falls. At game end, reputation converts to victory points. Points are also earned for artifacts and scholarships. The player with the most points wins.
