Good radio reception in a car depends on the antenna attached to the car’s ground and its placement. Antennas should not be installed contrary to the car’s instructions. In case of interference, check if the car receiver has an internal interference filter – most cheap receivers lack proper interference protection. Simply open the receiver cover and check for inductive elements on the power supply positive. When installing the receiver, ensure it is firmly attached to the car ground. Using a pocket for the receiver, remember it is also part of it, and the metal casing should be connected to the ground just like the radio. Use certified connectors for installation. Poor connector crimping causes reception deterioration manifested by crackling, interference, and interruptions. Interference may occur in the car’s electrical system due to faulty: interference capacitor, high voltage wire, interrupter, starter, or alternator. If these are of poor quality, using a radio filter will not eliminate interference. The radio filter is effective only for residual interference in the car’s electrical system.
