VC4 is a professional processor charger with a three-stage TC/CC/CV charging process and LCD display. It charges 1-4 Li-ion 3.6 / 3.7V and Ni-MH batteries of any capacity in sizes AAA/R03, AA/R6, 10440, 14500, 14650, 16340, 17500, 17670, 18350, 18500, 18650, 18700. The two outer channels can charge batteries in sizes R14, R20, 20700, 21700, 22650, 25500, 26650, 32650.
The backlit LCD display of the Xtar VC4 charger shows real-time information about charger status: voltage of charged batteries, charging current, charge used to charge batteries, indicates errors, and signals charging completion. It simultaneously displays the current status for two channels. Switching between the other two channels is possible using the CH button on the charger housing. The charge used information can be used to measure battery capacity. To measure battery capacity, discharge it to its cutoff voltage (usually 2.5V for Li-ion, 0.9V for Ni-MH) and insert it into the VC4 charger. After charging, the display shows the charge used to recharge the battery, which is always 3-5% higher than the actual capacity due to charging inefficiency.
Maximum charging current is 1A, available only for the two outer channels and only when the middle channels are unused. Batteries in the middle channels are always charged at 0.5A. When charging 3 or 4 batteries, VC4 charges all at 0.5A.
The Xtar VC4 charger has a reactivation function for deeply discharged cells and cells with 0V voltage. Many chargers cannot charge such batteries. The VC4 charger can often ‘rescue’ such cells by detecting and attempting reactivation upon insertion.
Note: Cells discharged below a certain level may be irreversibly damaged and reactivation may be impossible. Avoid deep discharge of Li-ion and Ni-MH batteries as it may significantly reduce their lifespan and capacity or cause total failure.
The VC4 charger comes with a USB cable. The power supply is not included. Any USB charger with a USB cable, e.g., phone charger, or a computer USB port can power the charger. Recommended USB power supply current is 2.1A (2100mA). Weaker power supplies can be used; VC4 adjusts charging current accordingly.
