The man who changed history!
Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the most fascinating figures in European history—a brilliant strategist, reformer, and creator of the modern army. As Emperor of the French, he conquered much of the continent, spreading new ideas. His military campaigns are lessons in tactics and stories of ambition, determination, and dramatic twists of fate.
The Battle of Borodino, presented in this set, was a key moment in his Russian campaign and the beginning of the end of the great eastward march.
The battle that opened the way to Moscow!
In September 1812, amid fires and cannon roar, one of the bloodiest clashes of the Franco-Russian war took place—the Battle of Borodino. Two powerful armies faced off: over 120,000 soldiers of Napoleon Bonaparte and 135,000 Russians under Mikhail Kutuzov.
Although the French won tactically, they did not exploit their advantage. Napoleon hesitated to commit the elite Imperial Guard, fearing loss of precious reserves. As a result, the Russian army could retreat, and although Napoleon captured Moscow, he failed to achieve the campaign’s decisive goal.
Borodino became a symbol of determination and sacrifice. Casualties on both sides were staggering: up to 85,000 killed and wounded. Though strategically inconclusive, the battle is forever etched in European history and on the Paris Arc de Triomphe.
