What was the Scorpio?
The Scorpio was a small machine used to launch projectiles resembling medieval crossbow bolts. It was extremely precise and effective, often frightening enemies on the battlefield.
As a war machine, the Scorpio was small and light, easy to transport – about 60 scorpios were in each Roman legion. Operated by one person, it was highly effective at short range.
It had very high accuracy – hitting a human-sized target was possible from about 100 meters, and the approximately 1-meter-long projectile could pierce shields or armor.
