The history of Polonez begins at the end of 1972 when the highest party level set the product development line for FSO. For cost reasons, the FSO Polonez was built on the chassis of the Polski Fiat 125p, from which it also inherited other technical solutions. Therefore, the car inherited most of its predecessor’s flaws: weak, outdated engine, short wheelbase, and large turning radius. However, Polonez was better equipped than Polski Fiat: it had more comfortable seats and a richer dashboard. In the TV series “07 zgłoś się,” Lieutenant Borewicz used Polonez cars produced between 1978-1987, giving them the nickname “Borewicz.”
