Bluff like a Coyote
Coyote is a bluff card game where you always see other players’ cards but never your own. When it’s your turn, you must declare a number smaller than the sum of all cards in play but higher than the previously declared number. You can also challenge a previously declared number. At the end, when all cards are revealed, you’ll see who has the cunning Coyote on their side.
Party game in a small box
Coyote is a party hit from the line started by Spicy. The game box features a special copper-colored metallic print. According to the traditions of tribes from the northwest coast of North America, copper symbolizes prosperity and cultural wealth.
Cards
At the start of the round, each player draws one face-down card and places it in a stand so others see it but not themselves. Additionally, one face-down card is placed in the center of the table.
What sum?
Cards have values from -10 to +20. Your task is to estimate the sum of all cards on the table. You see others’ cards but not your own or the face-down card on the table.
Big guessing
On your turn, declare the total value of all cards. You can bluff, but your bid must be higher than the previous player’s. Alternatively, you can challenge—then all cards are revealed.
Checking
If the total card value is less than the previous player’s declared number, you win the challenge and gain a Peek card. Otherwise, the opponent wins, and you lose a card.
Peek
On your turn, you can use a Peek card to check the value of a card on the table. With more knowledge, you can better estimate the sum than other players.
Elimination
When you lose your last Peek card, you are out. The game ends when only one player remains.
Additional twists
Special cards with variable values make guessing sums harder. Adding the Trickster variant, all players bet on all challenges’ outcomes.
Spicy’s Indian brother
Coyote almost drowned once, losing all his belongings crossing a river with animal friends. Poor Coyote was sad and jealous. He challenged other animals to a game to win their belongings. Being a notorious trickster, Coyote invented a bluffing game where everyone must lie because no one knows the truth.
Rumor has it the game was very similar to the one you hold!
