The IS-3 tank was first publicly presented during the Victory Parade on September 7, 1945, in Berlin. Produced from April 1945, this powerful heavy tank was meant to intimidate the Western Allies. Weighing over 45 tons, this steel giant featured heavily sloped armor plates that facilitated shell ricochets. It was equipped with a 122 mm D-25T gun known from the IS-2 tank. Despite its impressive mass, the IS-3 was relatively mobile thanks to the W-11 diesel engine.

The brick-built IS-3 tank is designed at a 1:28 scale and mimics the highly distinctive rounded shapes of its original. Comprising over 1100 pieces, the completed model measures 35.5 cm in length. Under the removable turret with a basket, interior elements are replicated. Under the service hatch, a brick replica of the W-11 tank engine can be placed. The turret also features bricks with periscope prints. The tank’s very challenging shapes are recreated using the latest elements developed for the COBI Historical Collection! The tracked traction works when moving the tank. The turret rotates, and the barrel elevates and depresses! The set includes a figure of a Soviet tank crewman in a characteristic navy blue jumpsuit.

The real IS-3 tank was developed in response to German heavy tanks. The brick model will look excellent on a shelf alongside the largest German and American vehicles from the COBI Historical Collection!
