Monsters in Tokyo King Kong Expansion
King Kong is the second mini-expansion for Monsters in Tokyo and Monsters in New York, cult board games by Richard Garfield (Android: Netrunner, Magic: The Gathering). The expansion introduces a new terrifying monster, King Kong. The huge, hairy gorilla will do anything to save his beloved, even climbing the Empire State Building. The expansion is compatible with both Monsters in Tokyo and Monsters in New York, adding two towers: Empire State Building (for New York) and Tokyo Tower (for Tokyo). Climbing the top of these towers becomes an additional victory condition. King Kong can be played standalone without other expansions, but combined with Power Up! you gain access to powerful Evolutions, including his Beauty card, enabling him to fight for his love.

Who came up with the stupid idea to bring this hairy monster to our city?! Why not leave him on that deserted island? Are you crazy?! This is no ordinary angry beast; it’s a lovesick angry beast and will do anything to save his beloved! We must mobilize our entire army. Maybe we should negotiate with other monsters? How about Cthulhu, will he cooperate? Hurry, no time to waste!

Depending on the game, choose the appropriate tower (Empire State Building or Tokyo Tower) and place each of its three floors separately next to the board. If a player in Tokyo (or Manhattan) rolls four 1s (four Ouch symbols), they take the lowest tower level and place it beside them. Rolling four symbols again takes the second level. If another player does this, they take the lowest level from the previous player, and so on. The first to collect all three tower levels wins!

Beauty and the Beast
One of King Kong’s Evolutions is “Beauty Killed the Beast.” When activated, a special Beauty card enters the game with two sides: Beauty in Hand (held by King Kong) and Beauty Kidnapped (held by another player). When King Kong has Beauty, he rolls an extra green die. King Kong loses the card each time he takes damage, passing it to the player who dealt the damage. Without Beauty, King Kong can only damage the new card owner until he regains it.
